"When Is Enough?"
This weekend was a mix. We met up with old university friends, had a picnic in warm, muggy weather that switched between sunshine and light rain. The kids stayed up late two nights in a row.

Then Monday came and they were up late again.

This morning, it all fell apart.

Our five-year-old refused to get ready. Shoes were out of the question. He’d already eaten, but suddenly he was “starving” again. Not really for food. More for control, or comfort, or a distraction from the fact that it was time to leave. What followed was a full meltdown. I had to carry him to school, kicking and yelling, in just his socks (shoes in the school bag).

And I couldn’t help thinking: how did it get to this?

We put effort into giving them good weekends. Trips out. Picnics. Time with friends. Moments they’ll hopefully remember. But the behaviour in return often feels ungrateful, demanding, like the more we give, the more is expected.

It makes you stop and ask: at what point do you pull back? Not to punish, but to reset. To remind everyone, including yourself, that fun is something to be appreciated, not assumed.

There’s no easy answer. But it’s something I keep coming back to. Especially on mornings like this.

Think: Are you continuing to show up for people who’ve stopped noticing? In parenting, in business, in content — is it time to step back and set a new baseline?
